Job Role: Service Manager
Sandra started working in care in the early 1990s when her two children were younger. Deciding on a few career changes since leaving the RAF in the late 80s, care seemed to be the usual route back into work after having children. Sandra loved all the roles she worked in from Night Sleeper, Home Care Assistant through to Residential Mental Health Worker, but always felt frustrated with the lack of professionalism and care shown by her colleagues and managers.
Sandra went back to higher education and in 1996 graduated in Social Care Management, within a week started to work as an Assistant Manager in a day service for adults with learning disabilities. Sandra’s next few roles were managing local authority resource centres, but in November 2007 Sandra started working for Hillcrest Autism Services as Manager of West London Community College.
She went from starting off with a service which had six students within a shed, to a service that has forty students across two campuses.
